We love reading the sweet emails our clients send to us after their shoots and when they get their pictures. We wanted to use Miss J in our review section and wanted to take a snippet from and email we received. We asked and not only did she say yes, she wrote this pearl of her experience in addition. WE LOVE IT! Here is what Miss J has to say about her experience with Warwick Boudoir. She has titled it My Boudoir Reflections .
My Boudoir Reflections
The Prep: Hurry Up and Wait ~
Hair, nails, exfoliation, DIET…. The list started as soon as we agreed on a date for our boudoir shoot. My girlfriend and I decided to get a series of boudoir photographs done for our husbands and we scheduled our appointment together for moral support. Neither one of us knew what to expect, much less what to wear. We moms didn’t have a collection of burlesque attire hidden under a pile of laundry.
While we juggled our schedules to strategically place beauty appointments, we shopped online for outfits. Gut check time: am I really going to do this? Am I going to look like a fool? Why am I even shopping for these pretty little things when I’m going to be wearing pretty much nothing? “Mom! I need help….” Real life would come crashing in and by the end of my haggard day, I found myself looking forward to the beauty prep work and the escape of attempting to be the glamorous photo shoot model.
I was also looking forward to eating normally again after the appointment! We women do a lot for a pretty picture, whether we admit it or not.
The Shoot: Trust The Photographer ~
“We can do this” was our attitude when we walked in with all our props. Over anxious and over stocked, I knew I brought too much: lingerie thingies, sports equipment and way too many shoes. It’s a good thing those undergarments are easy to pack.
In spite of our heightened anticipation, the photographer Sheryl and makeup artist Sandra put us at ease immediately. We talked attire while we were getting our hair done. It was like any other day at the beauty salon or breakfast table. Comfortable, casual, easy… except we were about to be practically naked in front of a camera! Eek!
Our makeup artist applied color in places I never knew needed color and the end result was a glamorous face I didn’t recognize. She knew what the camera was going to do better than I did. I don’t think either one of us had practiced posing for shots. We didn’t vogue on a regular basis. Sheryl reassured us that we didn’t need to know. We had signed up to be putty in their hands.
The nervous adrenaline helped me focus on Sheryl’s instructions: legs over here, toes pointed, chin down and booty out, out, out. These were good distractions that kept me from fixating on the fact that I was sprawled out on a bed wearing a corset for the first time ever in front of one of my best girlfriends and another woman whom I had just met. Was I comfortable? No! Did I care? Chin out, arch this way…Flash. “Great shot, I got it!” Sheryl would say and then suddenly, I didn’t care. I wanted these to be awesome photos. Flash. “Good one, here’s a peek…” Wow! Sheryl’s camera didn’t capture my awkwardness. On her screen, I saw myself as sensual and alluring. Oooh la la!
The Photos: The Beautiful Aftermath ~
In an amazingly short time, Sheryl had our photos ready for us to preview. While my girlfriend’s photos were breathtaking, I critiqued mine with surprising severity. Sheryl’s skills at constructing a photo resulted in images of me I never thought I would see. I looked like a magazine cover, and in others, the magazine fold out!
My man is definitely thrilled by the photos, but for me, they serve as proof that I can escape the daily grind of work, coffee and children and be powerfully sexy. I still don’t have the skills to put on a garter belt without snagging the stockings, but these images show me I can be confident and glamorous in little more than my own skin.
Many thanks to the girlfriend who did this with me and to Sheryl, the photographer who captured our sexy superhero identities.
